Cavernous Hemangioma

Cavernous hemangioma (hee-man-jee-oh-mah) is a benign tumor made up of a collection of blood vessels, more commonly in middle-aged women. Eyeball protrusion (proptosis) can occur, but is usually slowly progressive. Pregnancy may accelerate its growth.

Treatment

If the hemangioma causes eye protrusion, eye muscle restriction, or poses a potential risk for compressing the optic nerve, it can be removed surgically to prevent vision loss.
